Astro Empires is a Massively Multiplayer Online Game (MMOG), also known as Persistent Browser-Based Game (PBBG).

It's played directly from any web browser (no need to install any software or plugins) and runs on a persistent universe in real time, which means the game keeps running even when you are not online.
